Hello all - What do you think about linking together while we are all separated by covid-19?
How about a KAS KAL?
What is a KAS KAL? You ask....... Well........ KAL stands for Knit Along. It is a time when we are all working in a similar piece of knitting and can ask each other for help, share photos of how we are doing, encourage each other........ and learn how to do some of the KAS patterns as well as using up some of our stash.
I have designed a blanket that we can all work on, one square at a time. It will be a fun way to learn about Plain Janes, Diagonal Squares, Stripes, Framed Squares and Mitre Squares......all at our own pace, and all explained really simply, with lots of opportunity for anyone to ask for help or clarification as well.
I propose that we start this on May Day and we end it..... when we finish!
This is suitable for all of us. That means that some of us, who are
experienced or confident knitters may be able to get through it.
relatively quickly. Others who are working from home, juggling
work and kids, or just not very experienced or not very confident
about knitting may want to take a little longer to work through it.
I hope some of you will feel able to join in - keep your eyes peeled for further information before we start!

I am so sorry - I had lots of bright and colourful pictures of squares to shower on the introduction, but my Ning skills were not up to it....... But we will make up for tat with lovely photos of our own work :)
Sounds like fun Rebecca. It will be really interesting at the end too, to see the blankets members have created. I'll give it a try.
That is great Sandra!
Yes, it will be interesting to see what difference the colours we use will make!
Rebecca, I think this is a fabulous idea! Just the thing to keep us focused and connected. I have been meaning to learn some of the alternative square patterns for ages so this is a great opportunity to do just that. Also, it will be a fun project to chat about on the podcast. If you would like to record an interview for an upcoming episode via Zoom or something, please message me directly.
It will be lovely to have you on board, Leanne!
Claire - thank you so much for your work.
It will be lovely to have you join in with us.
Time to start looking for the DK yarn you would like to use. There are 9 types of squares, and there are two types with more than one colour in them. You will need 50 - 100g of each colour. If you want to you can use more than one colour for one type of square so you get all the same pattern but 3 or 4 different colours of that pattern. You might want to have a variegated yarn to use for the mitre square to show off its construction.
You might want to just go with whatever colours you have to hand, or you might want to go for a theme like bright, or hot, or shades of pink or blue....... Remember that you do not want too many pale shades in the blanket as it will not get washed too frequently.
I would like very much to be part of the KAS-KAL . I have limited resources due I'm away from home but I could manage it. Let's do it for the children!!!
Diana, thank you - colours of yarn are not really that important, I am sure yours will look great even if you have a limited colour palette to choose from.
Rebecca, count me in! I'll do my best to keep up, but I may get sidetracked occasionally.
Going to check my stash - having fun already ... hahaha ... xo
Gloria it will be great to have you on board with this. I am doing so many different KALs and CALs that I will not be getting this done all in a Ruch either - I have been having a look in my stash as well - I have found half of the colours in there that I want...... I really need to make some space as I just saw some real bargain yarn for sale online and may have accidentally ordered some...... Ooops!
