Can you explain what "Leave a gift" refers to, please, if you have a moment to spare.

Christine! You're in South Wales and I am in N E Wales (near Llangollen) I have been so fortunate lately to find a friend who works as a volunteer for our local CHALK charity shop, Pam Johnstone.  At CHALK they have lovely retirerd firefighters from the Oswestry Fire and Rescue service to take goods over to Romania, also they have a Removals firm who fill up their spaces with enormous vacuum packed  squares etcetera, for KAS and take them to Bryanstown.  She is a lovely lady who comes to collect my items and have a cuppa and a chat with me.  Some people say there is no God, but I find him over and over in people! x

Christine...Thank you for inviting me to be a friend.  If I make mistakes or fail to see your messages, please excuse me...as a Silver Surfer (85) I am a bit of a dum-dum on the computer sometimes!! (Mainly in senior moments) I'm very touched by your request. x

Thanks for the friend requests, Christine; a pleasure to accept. I've only recently started crocheting and find your beautiful squares and stunning blankets such an inspiration!

Thank you so much Christine for sending me such a lovely message welcoming me to your group :-)

I am 58 a mother of 2 and a Grandma of 3 and my eldest child was 40 just before Christmas last year!

I have knitted for most of my life and recently taught myself to Crochet too. I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you and of course knitting (& crochet) many squares too :-)

I inherited a huge amount of wool on cones from my husband's grandmother's estate when she passed away. She created many beautiful baby outfits on her knitting machine (which I also received) which is resting in its box in the loft untouched :-) as I admit to being a little afraid of it with its beeping and flashing lcd screen when it's plugged in and it's vicious looking hooks or maybe needles which look like they're just waiting to ensnare the sleeves of an unsuspecting hand knitter like myself! Lol

I think my husband will be the one who hooks himself into it to learn to knit with it!

I have a look at the coned wool it is mostly 4ply which will when 2 ends are twisted together will make some Lovely DK to knit squares toys and ?clothing? with for the children in Africa :-)

I am going to bed now but I will take a quick look at the patterns before I go to sleep so I can sleep on it.

This I find is the best way to get knitting patterns into my head so that when I wake up ( after my chores are done) I can sit and knit :-)

So I'll wish you all a very good night and pleasant (creating) dreams and I'll be back tomorrow knitting

Kindest Regards, Sarah-jane Xx

Dear Christine

Thank you so much for your lovely message which I very much appreciate.  I do not have the skill  of so many KAS contributors who make such stunning picatorial squares.  But I do get a lot of [pleasure  from working with colours - with patchwork and cross stitch my other favourite crafts.

My mother taught me granny squares many years ago, but I have never come to grips with reading a crochet pattern - not helped by the different UK/USA terminology,  It has taken me ages this week trying  to make a simple crochet flower, until I came across an excellent You Tube tutorial.

I am delighted to combine the enjoyment from my hobby with helping such as worthy case as KAS.

Good luck with all your KAS activities - your January squares are wonderful in their design and colour.

Best wishes for 2016..  Susan (Donaldson)

Thank you Christine!

I am always busy making for my 4 children, but its not been cold enough here to warrant them wearing any mittens or hats!
I made my first pair hand warmers yesterday as Ive been laid up with bad tooth ache, after seeing the update that they were clean out of them.
Hope to make more squares and make up a bundle worthy of posting!
Cheers!
Samantha

This is now confusing. I found a Colleen Dion (from Port
Coquitlam) which I am sure is me, spells incorrectly DIXON. I had also had an email change from shaw.ca to telus.net, so hopefully I am not listed twice. How do I check that? Thanks!

Thank you for the welcome, Christine!  My third package of squares is waiting to be taken to the post office...just waiting for the go-ahead on the Bryanston P.O. situation.  I love being part of this group.  BTW, I visited Wales back in the '70s while a student abroad...such a beautiful place!

Christine, just a question for future blankets to come: i see that you used aran weight for your two fabulous striped blankets, how much yarn was it / which crochet size did you use (my guess is a 5 or 6 mm but could be totally wrong!) Thanks in advance and congrats again for this awesome work :)
