"if knitting a diagonally knitted square is easiest just add one stitch each row until wide enough then decrease one stitch each row. Works well in garter and great for using up scraps to make stripes."

"Welcome Skylar, As Bev said, the square will be fine.  I'm also a crocheter and find the easiest way to make sure the square is close to 20 cm x 20 cm is to start in the centre and work my way out.  The KAS Pattern book has a number…"

"Yes please, Skylar. A 50cms/20" tail and butterflied, if possible, please...just helps prevent tangled yarn.  :)) Here is a link for butterflying. http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/how-to-secure-the-tail-to-a-square"

"Ok thanks. I wasnt sure how long it would be when I started. But when I did the border it did shrink so it's around 23 cm now.  Thank you. "

"Hi Skylar. We try to keep them as close to 8" square, as possible, simply for ease of sorting and sewing together. They are 'volunteers' in South Africa and therefore their time is usually limited and they try to get as many blankets…"

Hi Skylar.

A warm welcome to the Knit A Square forum.  :))

LOVE your puss cat.  :))

Knitting or crocheting an 8" square or two or possibly even a few is a wonderful gift for the children. They love to receive their blankets, created from squares, which come from kindly, caring folk such as yourself, from over 60 countries all over our world.  PJs (Plain Janes as they are affectionately known) are the backbone of all our blankets. These are single colour squares that are in garter stitch(knitting) or single crochet as they are very solid and provide a contrast to a picture/striped/patterned square or two that may be added to a blanket.By clicking on the KASpattern book tab at the top of the page or our other square pattern discussion  http://forum.knit-a-square.com/forum/topics/member-s-patterns-squares you can also find lots of patterns provided by our fellow K-A-Sers. If you would kindly check out our wishlist, you can see what items we are currently focusing on.
