Spain wins. Orphaned children win.

Posted on July 11, 2010 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

Anyone with a deep concern for the plight of vulnerable and orphaned children should be interested in the outcome of this Soccer World Cup final. Undoubtedly the winning team of this international contest will receive massive publicity from all over the world. With a UNICEF ambassador for children on the team and seven others from this remarkable Barcelona club, one would hope that some of the media adulation, should they win, will fall on their extraordinary connection to suffering children.… Continue

We arrived through streets that once were the domain of the exclusively white, professional classes during the Apartheid days, and now teemed with school children, all black, in varying degrees of school dress.

At first glance they seemed just like any other carefree group of school children, but there was something mean about these streets, a place you would not wish to loiter or break down in your car. …

It was always intended to reach a wider audience about the wider issues surrounding orphaned and vulnerable children in Africa and what help we can bring to make a difference. The plight of the children is recognized by some world bodies and governments. However, the solution is not in sight either for the orphans already so compromised by the suffering they endure or for the children yet to be born in decades to come. To continue, click here.

Kalai has just written in Cafe KAS that overnight we achieved our 1000th

member, Anne Hart from the UK. Well done Anne and well done KAS!

We have 1003 members today to be exact, but only a percentage of our

members are active in the forum discussions. People are busy and have

so much to fit into a day, so we are massively grateful that you find

the time to knit/crochet, and 'post' of the two varieties - parcels and

words in the forum! And we understand if you… Continue

A balance for KAS

Hello dear Kasers

There has been a discussion about postage issues in Canadian Corner, which brought to mind reflections which I thought to share with you all.

Hope you are following our South African journey with us although I am already days behind! We have been pretty hectic meeting and greeting and parcel

Firstly I just want to tell you that the warmth and love and gratitude

Hi Sandy,

There were no problems with the sites originally but have gone onto patterns today and have the message that there are malware issues.

I'm about to send off 60 squares but feel concerned (once again) that they may not arrive; although I've been through all the lists from July 2010 - March 2011 many times, I can't find any indication of my contribution posted from Oz in June last year.

While working on squares this AM, I happened to catch a PBS Special called "A Walk to Beautiul".  I believe it was filmed somewhere in Etheopia at the "Addis Ababa" Fistula Hospital.  Besides being a wonderful story, I noticed at least 4 women in knitted or crocheted blankets made from various colored squares.  Is someone else doing the same project?    Is this possible?  If anyone else has happened to see the special, would appreciate a response - thanks, Laurie

Hi Sandy,

Linda Maltby's discussion on Granny Squares are back gave me much food for thought.

On her link was a photo of Cate Blanchett wearing a granny square dress which was made and designed by an Australian company.  I suggested in my reply to Linda that Cate may like to donate her dress to KAS when she was finished with it, but as she was wearing it at a red carpet do it maybe on loan.

Well my thoughts were could we contact Cate Blanchett and or the manufacturer of the dress even if we don't get the dress to auction for KAS funds it could be a way of raising our profile.

This is just an idea off the top of my head and unfortunately I have not thought it through in detail.  I would love to know your thoughts and if you think I'm just mad as a hatter please feel free to say so.

Many thanks for all you do for KAS, love, Barbara

The Donate button provides 2 options:

  1. One time donation
  2. Monthly subscription               [click the box]

Because of PayPal/banking fees, KAS asks that your donation be 5USD [or more].  Anything less, means your donation is eaten up with fees.  Thank you!

Our goal is to remove the monthly deficit that Ronda and her team have to deal with. You can:

1. Make a donation whenever you are able.

2. Sign up for an ongoing monthly donation (subscription).

3. Shop at the KasShop!
