Ronda has expressed the need for a newer vehicle to transport squares and blankets. Helen Flagg has proposed to the US Group that we raise funds to help KAS purchase a car. The idea has gone global and there is an initiative on the forum about it. Check the latest ezine video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VK9mbUrGWI&feature=youtu.be
Hi Rosemary - so sorry you r having probs. I am not sure which vest/jumper you are referring to, but, I think the easiest way to get you sorted out is to start from the beginning. Using whatever size needles you want (this because the pattern allows for small vests/jumpers on small needles and larger ones on larger needles.
Cast on 44 stitches - Right? It sounds as if yoou are doing what we call a rib (border) to begin with - so - 1st row - knit 2 purl 2, second row purl 2 knit 2. Do this for a couple of inches or more, if you wish. Do not change your needles and start your pattern, which is prob ably stocking stitch from the sounds of it, being 1 row plain, 1 row purl. Continue until your garment measures 10" (or whatever length you wish).
NOW with right side of work facing - cast on 12 stitches, (44 and 12 + 56 - right?) Knit 2, purl 2 to end of row.
NEXT ROW cast on 12 stitches (56 + 12 = 68) so knit 2, purl 2 to end of row - (NO INCREASING IN THIS PATTERN). Continue the yoke/sleeve section of knit 2, purl 2 - for at least 5 - 6". CAST OFF and knit another side to match.
Sew your jumper up.
I do hope this helps you, please let me know if it doesn't and we'll make another plan. Best wishes and thank you for your great enthusiasm for the Knit-a-square cause.
At the end of each month I publish the list of the squares arriving. If you go to this link you can download a 20 page list of all those who have donated squares.
I would love to thank each and every one of you personally, but I hope you will understand that with the volume of squares arriving in South Africa, (which of course we want in order to make more blankets for the orphans) and only Kalai and I, it is just not possible to do that in the time available to us.
We really want to make the most of our time working hard to get more squares to Africa and writing and sending the e-zines which bring news to you of the children and their blankets.
