Introducing myself

Good Morning from  Massachusetts, USA. I'm new to KAS but also fairly new to crocheting. I am making squares using the stitch my mother taught me 50 years ago, I'm not even sure if it's a single or double crochet. Making squares has been a God send during this time of  "home confinement". I have a few questions:  Is it ok to just make random squares? I am using left over yarn given to me by friends so there may be 2 of one color and 10 of another. The corners of my squares curl up, even if I…See More

Hi Annette,  welcome from the West Coast of Canada.  I look forward to seeing your squares when you can post a photo. I do not crochet well at all but I like to knit.  This is a great site with lots of ideas and wonderful, helpful people.  Every square you make will be cherished and loved by some happy child wrapped in the warmth you send.  Arlene

Hi Annette, and welcome to the Square Circle Forum, home of Knit a Square.

My name is Amy and I am one of the Moderators from Texas.

We hope you enjoy the different discussions that cover all aspects of KAS.  We hope that you will get to see your work arrive in The Barn or better yet wrapped around a child during a distribution.

Please feel free to add a comment or two to photos or discussion.  This site is a little challenging at the beginning but with a little practice it is very easy to navigate.

I look forward to seeing some of your work on the Forum.

Hi Annette!  A very warm welcome to you from the East Coast of Canada!

My name is Gloria and I’m one of several Moderators on our Square Circle Forum.  My job is to put together our monthly newsletter - KAS Snippets.  Each month I pull together photos and information from the forum and our members, along with requests from our team in South Africa - sort of a KAS-at-a-glance, so to speak.  You should receive notification near the end of each a month with a link to the current edition.  I hope you will enjoy catching up on all the KAS news!

One of the many great things about Knit-a-Square is the photos our volunteers in South Africa take and share with us - photos of our squares on the sorting tables - photos of our squares in blankets - and best of all, photos of our squares in blankets wrapped around the beautiful children! We actually get to see our work in action!  You can move around the forum by clicking on the various headings (Helpful Hints, KasBlog, Discussion Categories, KAS Shop, Shipping Instructions and so on) at the top of this page.

It’s a very unsettled time for all of us just now and I hope you and your loved ones are well and staying safe.  At the moment, we have been asked to hold off mailing anything to S. Africa as many things have come to a halt there, just as they have in many other places.  However, we hope you will continue  to crochet squares for the children.  Sc and Dc are perfectly lovely and will be a welcome addition to the children's blankets.  We will begin sending again once our world gets back to normal.

You will be welcomed into any of our discussions so come on in and put your feet up, grab your yarn and hook/needles and enjoy. You are among friends.

CREATECARE GLOBAL

"CreateCare Global has set itself two tasks. The first is physical: to bring hope, support and comfort to children for whom poverty and loss are everyday tormentors. The second, and in our view equally important, is to spread the message to the world."

Our thanks to CreateCare Global for supporting the Square Circle Forum and helping to spread the wonderful work that KAS does.
