Note from Pam:

This week another 10 parcels had to be returned for re-assessment because people had placed values such as $50 on their parcels - South African Customs are desperate to raise funds and the bill for these ten parcels was assessed at $1300 ($105.50) - if these parcels do not come back with a reasonable assessment, they they will have to remain with SA Customs, who will most likely dispose of them, which would be a shame, and, a waste of some kind-hearted person's effort & postage.

Knit-a-Square is so strapped for cash, we simply cannot pay for parcels that have these estimated and inflated values!

Please tell as many people as possible the need for  the change of the parcel declaration to "BONA FIDE GIFT FOR CHARITY - NO COMMERCIAL" that needs to be on the front of all parcels, and, please please do not add a value of more than "I" on parcels - preferably "0"

A number of Knit-a-Square members are not receiving group notices sent via the forum email system.  We have attempted to rectify this problem but it is not possible.  The change must be made by the members not the Ning system.

Mass mailings tend to be caught by spam filter programs.   If the forum messages have been caught in your spam folder, and you wish to receive emails from Knit-a-Square in the future, please do the following:

  1. Mark Knit--a-Square emails as not spam.
  2. Add the Knit-a-square email address to your contact list.  [mail@forum.knit-a-square.com]

If the Spam filter is not the problem please change the settings on your profile page.

  • Click on ‘Settings’ on the top right side of the forum page.
  • Go to ‘Email’ and tick all the boxes under ‘Square Circle Forum Messages’.

You will be very pleased to know that the strike has ended!

Wendy collected 27 boxes and 24 large mail bags full of post today and Bryanston expect to receive post for KAS from the central sorting depot - everyday! It took three trips, so the team will be having an opening day Thursday!

We’re starting the 2014 Squares List with a new format and a new time !

Format: The Squares Lists may be viewed on the KAS website:

www.knit-a-square.com   Click on ‘Received Squares’ .

If you are interested in learning how many squares and items are received each month, please visit the Monthly Squares List discussion found in DiscussionsCategories. [Click on Squares List and Tally]

Time: To give the team in South Africa more time to log all the information, the Squares List will be available around the middle of each month.  The ‘NewsFlash’ [on the right hand side of each forum page] will announce when the new Squares List has been added.   There will not be an announcement made on each country group.

2014 The Year of the Square !  Let’s send the numbers right off the graph !!

Would you take the time to vote ?   The Mars company in the UK is looking to help small community charities through their Hot Chocolate Fund. Elaine Jones and Pam Johnson have added their Knit for Life charity to the website.  Here's what Pam had to say:

Please help us to raise £300 [equivalent to $480 US] to buy wool for KAS.  Mars are giving away five lots of £300 every week for the next 16 weeks on their website here -

I have put up an entry for Knit for Life and if we are successful we can get so many squares knitted.  Every week for 16 weeks they will give an award to the application with the most votes, and 4 other awards which they will choose.  PLEASE VOTE for Knit for Life here

to get £300 of wool for KAS which we can use for lots and lots of squares.
