the size for a small packet for South Africa is slightly different than for the UK. The height + weight + depth must be no more than 90cm with no single side longer than 60 cm.If you buy the boxes for small parcel post in the UK they will be half an inch too big. Some post offices will not notice but this might cause an excess fee the other end (although I don't think there have been any reports of this).
Hi Amanda - from the UK parcels up to 2kg are £12.05 international economy. It makes financial sense all round to make your parcel as near to this maximum weight as possible as retrieval from the South Africa PO costs the charity per parcel too. You can find information on a packing slip + address label on the KAS main page. Hope this helps, Karen
do I read it correct they get charged a handling fee even if there is no duty to pay ?
Thanks Christine , I used to work at our local Animal Charity and the Shop but have not been working there for 2 years , but we do support them by eating at their Café where all the profits go to help the animals. I will see what I caqn get from them
A little suggestion for our UK members.......
Since regulations changed for charity shops last year, they can no longer sell soft toys without their labels, so these lovely toys are send to landfill! The manager of one of my local charity shops now saves the toys for me, as she knows they are being sent to needy children in S.Africa. Most of the toys saved are absolutely lovely and will be enjoed by 'our children'. She did check it out with her regional manager initially, and had the ok. I can only send small soft toys because of the cost in postage etc that we all face.
Perhaps others would like to ask at they local charity shops?
Thanks for this information Tom - what a surprise, something going down in price!
anyone sent a Parcel since the change in postal rates , instead of £13.30 for 2kg economy it is now £ 12.05 .according to the Post office web site ordinary parcels is about £20 . now there lots of Knitters I don't think there is any need to send other than at the Cheapest rate. Hope everyone is keeping well
