Exciting news! I'm going to be in the UK next week! My daughter Tammy lives in Bury St Edmonds and my husband and I will be with her from Saturday 19 to Monday 21 January.
I would love to get together with some of the KAS members in the area. It's a big ask at such short notice, but I'm throwing it out there as an idea. Perhaps one of you could suggest a time and venue for a meet-up and we can see if others can join in. I will have transport and Tammy is happy to drive, so anywhere in a 40-minute range would probably be fine.
This would be a great opportunity to connect and share our stories, as well as do a bit of knitting or crocheting! I really hope something can be arranged.
Have you seen our two current Christmas fundraisers now on the forum?
Peace of Mind is our 'gift' to the team in SA - a little extra for those times when there is 'more month than money'.http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/peace-of-mindand
We're Decorating a Memory Tree - a lovely way to remember loved ones from our past or a share a special Christmas memory.http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/we-re-decorating-a...
I use a Plastic cat Litter bag ( turned inside out) it is approx. 33cms wide and 5-6 cms wide when filled with just under 2kg of donations and squeezed down as small as possible my local Village post office accepts it ,a Sainsbury 10p Shopping bag would probably do as well, . boxes if you wish but the less weight of plastic bags means more goods for the Children , all have arrived so far in 9 years
Amanda here's a link to the posting instructions http://square-circle-forum.ning.com/forum/topics/postage-information-1
It is on Royal Mail's site but it is a bit confusing and hard to find. You have to go to 'sending mail' then down to 'international parcel service' then click 'international economy' then click 'overview' then go down to the kind of package.
the size for a small packet for South Africa is slightly different than for the UK. The height + weight + depth must be no more than 90cm with no single side longer than 60 cm.If you buy the boxes for small parcel post in the UK they will be half an inch too big. Some post offices will not notice but this might cause an excess fee the other end (although I don't think there have been any reports of this).
I saw on the post office page did not see small packet or what ever they are not international sorry so confused
Hi Amanda - from the UK parcels up to 2kg are £12.05 international economy. It makes financial sense all round to make your parcel as near to this maximum weight as possible as retrieval from the South Africa PO costs the charity per parcel too. You can find information on a packing slip + address label on the KAS main page. Hope this helps, Karen
I have been away from knit a square for some back due to personal reasons. I would like knit squares again. Bit confused about what to put on the envelope thanks
