Striped Square Pattern

Pattern by Lucy Wallace

STRIPED 8 INCH SQUARES on a round loom
[Note - re: finishing off the top and bottom edges, this pattern involves the use of the techniques shown in my YouTube video "Loom knit squares - strengthening the edges".]

Cast on 23 stitches of double strands of colour 1 (leaving 36 - 40 inch tail for finishing off) - after which yarn should be back at peg 1. Count this as Row 1.

Row 2: Join colour 2 at winding peg, wrap above colour 1, secure at peg 23, then knit by hooking colour 1 over colour 2.

Row 3: Wrap colour 1 above colour 2, secure at peg 23 (see photo for example of how this would look) then knit by hooking colour 2 over colour 1.

Row 4: **Wrap colour 2 above colour 1, secure at peg 1, then knit by hooking colour 1 over colour 2.

Row 5: Wrap colour 1 above colour 2, secure at peg 1, then knit by hooking colour 2 over colour 1.

Row 6: Wrap colour 2 above colour 1, secure at peg 23, then knit by hooking colour 1 over colour 2.

Row 7 : Wrap colour 1 above colour 2, secure at peg 23, then knit by hooking colour 2 over colour 1.**

Repeat ** to ** ( ie do alternating rows of colour 1 and colour 2) until you have completed 27 rows. At this point you should have colour 1 on your pegs.

Row 28: Wrap colour 2 above colour 1, secure, then knit by hooking colour 1 over colour 2.

Row 29 - Wrap colour 1 above colour 2, secure, then knit by hooking colour 2 over colour 1.

Row 30 - Wrap colour 1 above colour 1, secure, then knit by hooking colour 1 over colour 1.

Remove stitches (which should all be colour 1) onto large (eg 9mm) needle.

Do knitted cast-off, leaving 20 inch tail for butterflying.

Finish off bottom edge if you have not already done this.
