I have, yesterday, just started knitting blanket squares (so far, using diagonal method). I used acrylic double knit yarn on 6mm and 5mm kneedles and neither seem particularly warm to me. Would it be preferable to swap to wool please? Many thanks.
Welcome Sue, and thank you so much for joining us!
I think I know what you mean about your piece not feeling warm enough. What about using smaller needles ... perhaps 3.5mm or 4mm ... for a tighter knit. Or, could you knit with 2 strands of your yarn to double up the thickness?
Good luck and please to let us know how you make out. We'd love to see photos of your finished work ... xo
Hello again. I have just looked out my “poppy” yard and am much happier with the result, even after only knitting a few rows. Sue x4F629CDF-1296-4B1E-B966-7F371B95B5D7.jpeg
Very pretty and neat few rows, Sue. Can't wait to see the final result. Is it a diagonal pattern? A warm welcome form NY. Thanks for joining us.
Sue, you could post your photos in the photo gallery for everyone to see it.
Thank you. I will try to put photos in the gallery next time.
I like that stitch! It looks really thick and fluffy.
I use mostly either 100% acrylic or at may 10% wool. I think the kids are likely to give it plenty of wear and tear so it will need to be strong. For the DK I use 4mm (old UK size 8) needles.
Thanks Rebecca. When I’ve finished my red square I’ll try 4mm kneedles with the acrylic yarn - it is such a pretty yarn with lots of different colours running through it.
I use mostly a mix of acrylic and wool yarn at the moment tho trying to swap over to 100% wool as more environmentally friendly.
