KAS FINANCES - URGENT APPEAL
APPEAL FOR DISTRIBUTION FUNDS
Ronda has been in touch to let us know her concerns regarding the lack of funds in the KAS bank account. Ronda urgently requires funds to be able to carry out the winter distributions to the children, these distributions are due to start within the next few weeks before the weather becomes too cold.
Here is a message direct from Ronda;
“Sadly the flood was costly in terms of cleaning costs and re-organising the office so that nothing stands on the floor, ie. bringing in a whole bunch of shipping pallets etc. Not to mention room and fabric sprays to help with the appalling smell of damp wool which seemed not to go away despite our running all the room fans for two solid weeks!!!
In Rand terms it costs us between R30,000 and R35,000 per month to run KAS. That would be approximately $2600 or £2100 at current exchange rates. We have been receiving between $800 - $1500 via PAYPAL for many months now, so have eaten into our reserves each month. We have approximately 12 regularly monthly donors The bank account it is the lowest it has been in many years ”
As you can see there is a huge shortfall each month between the amount of money it takes to run KAS and the amount Ronda receives via PayPal donations. Today we are launching an appeal on behalf of Ronda to raise urgently needed distribution funds. Without these funds KAS cannot complete its wonderful work.
YOU CAN HELP BY:
The KAS Shop is a direct donation to a child through Knit-a-Square.
Don't have Paypal - You can still help
If you don't have paypal you can still contribute. The follow moderators are able to collect cheques payments and forward these to Ronda.

Going forward...... What can we do ?
As some of our older forum members will be aware, we have had to request for funds previously. Since moving into rental premises, KAS outgoings have increased, but so has KAS and it is not practical or realistic for KAS to be run from Ronda's home. Unfortunately grants are not easily obtainable. Ronda and her team are doing their best to try and win these and also search for cheaper premises. But both are not easy tasks.
Can you imagine what a relief it would be to Ronda and her team if we could all sign up to a monthly donation of $5,this would give her the stability. KAS operates on a shoestring budget and not a penny is wasted. Every penny really counts.
Look at how many forum member we have and if we all gave $5 dollars a month just imagine how many children Ronda could help and the security it would give KAS to keep going. So please ,please , please can you consider doing this.
We all know that KAS really does make a difference on the ground to these children.KAS Supplied blankets to 6000 children last year.
And finally .....
If any forum members have any ideas to help raise funds these would be welcomed by the Moderators. Please share on the discussion below or contact a moderator directly.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and your support. Together we can help and make a difference to these children's lives.
I will message you Helen's address. :))
Hi Alison, when you sign into the forum to post a message, if you scroll down, just below the signing in box are the subscribe and donate buttons. We are having problems with the subscribe button but the donate button is working ok. Hope this helps and thank you for wanting to make a donation to KAS, much appreciated. :))
Update on my auction sales. Sorry no photos and not much money. It seems that I was scraping the bottom of the barrel. I put in 4 lots, two were unsold [I should say that no-one wanted them!], the other two made a little under $20. I have left one box of sewing stuff, so we shall see how little I get for that. But I enjoyed the process of trying x Roz
Thanks so very much for your efforts and dedication to KAS. Every single bit counts; penny by penny, stitch by stitch. Thanks again.
Good on ya' Roz!!!
Back in March, KAS was in a dire position. We did not have enough money in the bank to cover the forthcoming monthly rent and the winter distribution season was looming fast. We were really going to struggle with our finances.
The yearly cost to run KAS is approximately $31000. We only had 12 regular donors, but rather than give up, close the door and watch KAS crumble we launched the Financial Appeal.
To date we have raised $29744.06 , this has been achieved by a combination of monthly subscriptions, one off donations and shop sales. We also launched the wonderful KAS merchandise via CafePress, this gives KAS a small income from the goods sold and in turn helps to spread the word about KAS.
We now have 115 regular donors, generating $1470 income a month. Unfortunately we do lose a couple of donors each month.
We have been very, very lucky and want to thank everyone who has made a contribution. There are so many wonderful contributors. A very special thank you must go to Sha Tin College in Shangai China who recently made a donation of $5000.
Between us all we really have given KAS the security for the rest of 2017.
So please let us cheer shout and give a big round of applause for our success, which, most importantly means we can continue to reach the beloved children of South Africa that desperately need our help.
Ronda has been overwhelmed by our efforts and we have had her sitting at her computer crying happy tears. She cannot thank us enough for our donations. Unfortunately our dear Ronda has not been very well lately and has fallen behind with her thank you notes. As moderators we have told her as much as we all love receiving her thank you notes, we fully understand that it is not possible for keep this up for each and every donations. We are sure each and everyone of you will understand and agree with this.
Whilst falling behind with the admin, the distributions are still happening and Lindi and Wandi are undertaking these, the KAS camera is on hand to record the events. Ronda has still to play catch up in forwarding these photos to us, but these photos will follow shortly.
Whilst this is absolutely wonderful news for the children , Ronda and the rest of the KAS team in South Africa, we cannot rest on our laurels, we still need to keep going. Unfortunately, monthly bills such as rent , fuel and the costs associated with the distributing blankets to the desperate children do not stop.
With that in mind please can we ask you to keep your subscriptions going and renew card details on your Paypal account each time the bank send you a new card. Then whenever finances allow please pop into the KAS Shop to make a purchase of fuel, rent ,fruit for the children or make a purchase of KAS merchandise from CafePress.
We will continue with some extra fundraising ideas along the way to make sure that Ronda has enough money to cover the unforeseen expenditure, such as the flood earlier this year, which was a complete drain (no pun intended) on KAS finances.
Louise and Sharon are aiming to produce a KAS calendar for 2017. The calendar will be printed in the UK and distributed by them in time for Christmas 2017.
Further information about the calendar will be available soon including postage costs for the UK , Europe and the rest of the world.
Apologies for such a long update but this is really great news for KAS. So there is just one final word to say to our donors , friends and forum members from Ronda, the team in South Africa and all the moderators.
Thank you, Sharon, for this very in-depth and positive report. It is very important for everyone to know exactly where we stand so that we can move forward ... together.
Thank you to you and Louise for the huge ... and successful ... effort you have put into getting the financials in order. Now we must attempt to keep the ball rolling. With everyone pulling together, the volunteers in South Africa will be able to concentrate on getting our creations to the children without having to worry about having a roof over their heads as they sort, or having enough fuel in the KASvan to manage the distributions!
Thank you to everyone who has helped and is helping to keep KAS in motion :) GO KASteam!!! xo
Ditto to all the responses and please tell Rhonda - Do NOT worry over sending thankyous. Take care and we love what you're doing.
Oh my - huge thanks to Sharon for sorting and inspiring and encouraging. Many thanks to Louise and all the mods for their continued good work. Get well soon Ronda and please don't worry about the thank you notes - we all understand how much time and effort that takes.]
What a wonderful thing the KAS family is - so many groups spring up then fade away but a worldwide effort keeps up the support - so heartwarming. :-)
