Back at the end of 2019, I decided to challenge myself to knit 500 squares for KAS before my 50th birthday on 7 December 2020. Today I reached 250, so I’m halfway there! Does anyone else set challenges like this for themselves?

I’d like to post a picture of the 250 squares I’ve made so far, but how do I add an image to one of these posts?

So happy to hear that you gave yourself a tough challenge...making enough squares for more than 14 blankets.  Even better that you are halfway there.

Here are the instructions for posting photos that can be found under Helpful Hints.

How do I upload a photo to the Forum?

- Click on the Photo icon in the top Menu Bar

- Click” +Add” in the upper right corner of the Photo page

- Click on Add Photo From Your Computer

- Use Browse feature to choose photo

Thank you!

Wow - what a great challenge.

I have never attempted something so large but I did once challenge myself to make as many hand warmers as I could in just one month.  I managed a Baker's Dozen (13).

That sounds like a great idea. I've never made hand warmers or hats for KAS, but I have a bunch of soft acrylic yarn that would be perfect for that. (I decided to use only wool for the squares, because it's naturally fire-resistant.) Is there a particular pattern you like?

  • Every theme monthly I sort of set myself tasks I hope to achieve, but I almost always have too many ideas of what to try out, or on needles.   I really try to go back and finish them all eventually.
  • Generally though if I set an idea, like my all in one blanket I did only that until it was done.
  • My 50+ black stripe handwarmers were a challenge I set myself too, and I surpassed my expectations which felt great!

Well, part of the fun of making stuff is trying different things. I'm getting inspired to make handwarmers too, now.

I’m looking forward to seeing your photos, Barbara. What a great challenge to set for yourself.  I set myself a goal for one of themes in August 2017 to make 40 textured squares and completed it just in time. 250 is a great achievement so far.

Thanks, Marion. It's nice to be able to chat with other KAS knitters. Makes the whole thing feel less lonely, more like a community. That's why I think KAS is my favorite charity to knit for. Getting to chat with other knitters and especially seeing the photos of the finished blankets with the kids.

I regularly set myself a challenge to stop buying so much yarn. I fail miserably.

I tell myself it's a relatively harmless form of overconsumption. :-)

Here's a photo of the squares so far . . . perhaps by the time I get to 500, we will be able to ship from the US to SA again.
