If you're like me, you often wish you could help out on a distribution day... If only I wasn't on the opposite side of the world!
Well here's some good news - now we can all help out with distributions in a very specific, individual way. There are three new, slightly unusual items to the Knit-A-Square shop today. These items let you purchase something special to support the day-to-day operations directly in South Africa.
For example, you could:
When the volunteer team arrives at one of the KAS Creches, they take beautiful blankets, toys and hats for the kids, but they also take some fresh fruit and snacks to make the day extra special. For $25 (US) you can help the team to buy enough snacks for a whole creche full of kids!
I'm sure you can imagine just how much driving is involved, getting all the squares and blankets to where they need to go. For $30 (US) you can help to cover the cost of fuel and ongoing maintenance the car requires to get the squares all the way from the post-office to a creche full of kids with blankets!
Not only do the volunteers have to keep us forum-goers notified of everything that's going on, they also need to make sure that all the various participants (our crafters, sewers, distributors and creche organizers, to name a few) are also well informed and organized. For just $15 (US), you can help to cover the cost of a mobile phone and network connection for a month, to make this much easier on one of our coordinators.
If you purchase one of these products from the shop, you'll be emailed a PDF which you could even print out and pass on to a friend as a gift for a special occasion. All of the money from the KAS Ops Support products goes to keeping things running smoothly in South Africa, which I think everyone can agree is absolutely vital.
Of course, there are still plenty of other exciting things available in the Knit-A-Square shop, if none of these catch your eye. If you haven't browsed the shop you, please do take a look!
If you've got ideas for other aspects of KAS which you would like to see added as items in the shop, we'd all love to hear them. Also, if you have any questions about how the KAS Ops Support products work, I'm happy to answer them here.

I second Mary - brilliant way to make a difference :)
What a great idea....puts the 'donation' request in the spotlight. This might encourage more people to make a donation if they can do it as a once off or every now and then. It also highlights what their donation will be used for. Sometimes people like specifics when donating money....they want to know its not getting lost in advertising and admin. All in all....a GREAT idea. :))
Brilliant! esp providing snacks for the kids.
Thanks for these suggestions ... it would be wonderful to have help with all these small expenses, which tend to add up and can become an issue at times ! KAS SA is so grateful for the thoughtful consideration which goes into every aspect of the help we receive, not only by all the wonderful crafting and knitting/crochet talents of its contributors, but your generosity across the board ... please - EVERY ONE OF YOU - hug yourselves, and know that it's actually ME hugging you !!!!
Great idea, snacks for the kids, as one idea is brilliant. I know all the other aspects are as important , but just to think of them getting a wee bit of fruit or some little treat is so good.
I love these new options. I already give a small monthly amount but sometimes I want to give a one time donation and these are perfect for that! Thanks for the ideas Erica! :D
Um I do have one question---I am guessing you are using the client shipping address PayPal has for me? I ask because I wasn't asked during the ordering process? Well if that's so the note cards are either going to me or my son-in-law, LOL. PayPal, by the way, is taking 24-72 hours to process some orders due to some new laws....ah well. It's great to get the notecards as well as provide some fruit for the kids, I'm very excited about it!
I really want those notecards. I am trying to sort it out with Pay Pal but meanwhile who do I need to reach to give them my address so the notecards can be sent? Thanks.
Jeanne - I think you will find that you will receive the notecards as a PDF since all the items in the Shop are "downloadables" so you don't need to worry about your address.
I take mine to my local Staples and have them printed on heavy cardstock, and I was able to find the perfect size envelopes at Staples as well.
I've just checked, and you should have received an email a few hours ago with instructions on how to download your note cards. If you haven't received the email, let me know and I'll follow up asap. No need to contact PayPal, their part has gone through just fine. :)
Okay thanks Erica and Anne, I shall look...my Inbox fills up so fast, I'm clearing through it right now. I do have a good local print shop that could print them off.
